Sanveber family

The Sanveber ancesters probably came from Bavaria in the 18th century. The oldest reference to the Sanveber name in Nagykanizsa's catholic church registry is the wedding day of Sanveber András and Dantzenberger Barbara on 24 Oct 1791. The name Sanveber was probably spelled originally as Samweber. This is a German name derived from "samtweber", which translates into English as "velvet weaver". Today there are no Sanvebers in Hungary, at least not in the on-line telephone directory. However, there are a few "Számvéber"s, which is probably a "magyarized" version of the same name. The Samweber name originated in Bavaria, but it is quite rare today. An Internet search for this name revealed that there was a Nikodemus Samweber living in Partenkirchen (today Garmish-Partenkirchen) , who in 1680 graduated from Wilhelmsgymnasiums, a school in München.

The name Dantzenberger was spelled several different ways in the parish registers. The earliest spelling was Tanczenperger, and this suggest that they may have come from Carinthia in Austria, where there is a small town called Tanzenberg, near Deutch Griffen in the valley of the Gurk river. .... . more
