Zob family of Szentgyörgyvölgy

The earliest records of our Zob ancestors are from the town of Szentgyörgyvölgy in Zala megye (county) near the Austrian border in western Hungary. The county records indicate that in 1598 there was a lawsuit concerning the harboring of a fugitive, and the defendant was represented by a lawyer, whose name was Zob Mihály. His name is referred to as "szentgyörgyvölgyi nemes Zob Mihály", that is "noble Zob Mihály of Szentgyörgyvölgy". The county records for 1598 also refer to a property division and inheritance agreement between Zob György and his son-in-law Zob János, who married György's daughter Margit. ... more
