Boleyn family

The name originates with the Frankish Counts of Ardennes, of Boulogne, and of Flanders. Count Eustace II was brother-in-law to Edward the Confessor and cousin to William the Conqueror. He received extensive lands in England from both, including the manor of Martock, in Somerset, where his grandson, Sir Richard de Boulogne established the Bullen family in England.

Geoffrey Boleyn, the son of Thomas Boleyn and Anne Bracton, was a wealthy mercer, and became Lord Mayor of London in 1458. In 1462 he bought Hever Castle, which was in need of repair, and converted it into a manor. Boleyn married Lady Ann Hoo of the Bedfordshire Hoos, and they had one son, William.... . ... more
