HIGHLIGHTS OF VIRGINIA

Next we journeyed to Williamsburg, Virginia where we spent another 7 nights.

We spent 2 days touring Colonial Williamsburg, which is a reproduction of the 18th century town. Costumed guides related history associated with various buildings, many of which were original. This is America's largest living history museum.

The day closed with the children's fife and drum core marching down the street.

Another day took us to the first English settlement in America, 1607 Jamestown. Fort Jamestown and the Indian village are on their original sites.

Authentically dressed interpreters told us about its history.

Berkeley Plantation was built in 1726 and the site of the first official Thanksgiving in 1619. Birthplace of Benjamin Harrison and President William Henry Harrison. It was also used as Civil War headquarters. Ancestors of the Harrison family still own the property.
