Edie and the Nun (2006)
This project consists entirely of found footage. I wanted to explore the idea that people can look at the same images and create entirely different stories out of what they see. This is reflected in the final work, which looks at how two women took very different paths despite being from a similar background.
This piece was shot on an extremely low budget, culled from donated footage and local creative reuse centers. The narration was recorded prior to shooting and thereafter I treated the film like an animation. I used an optical printer and timed each shot to match the narration. The film appears here uncut, exactly as it did on the original negative, and achieves sync via the SMPTE countdown at the beginning. (2:56)
