Hamlin familyThe family name was derived from the Saxon word Ham, meaning house, and Lyna, meaning pool or body of water. The city of Hamelin, Germany, for example, was named for its location at the confluence of the Hamel and Weser Rivers. Herhaps the Hamlyn family had come from that same area. In France the name was spelled Hamelin. A street in Paris today bears the family name. The name was found on the roll of the church in Dives, France. That city is located at the mouth of the Dives River in the province of Normandy, France. It was from there that William, the Conqueror gathered his army for his famous assault on England in 1066. A Hamelin was in that army of conquest.
