glass done for the Steinschönau Glasfachschule
ADOLF BECKERT
(1884-1929) became Director of the Steinschönau/ Kamenicky
Senov Glass School
from 1918-1926, and was himself a brilliantly versatile glass artist. His work ranges from the gold and black
enameled style, “gold and schwartzlot”, usually executed by the local glassmaking company of
Friedrich Pietsch, to finely engraved and etched
pieces- he worked with master engravers like Emil Kromer
(born 1898 Steinschönau.) Beckert designed also for the famous Loetz
glassworks in Klostermuhle (Klasterly
Mylne,) and was for two years their artistic
director, producing
exuberant vases with elaborate overlay and acid etching
processes. The photographs show
Steinschönau enameled pieces designed by Beckert from
the 1914-18 period.
