Peninsula Tennis Club Newsletter, October 2, 2007

Hi all players:

There is exciting news in professional tennis in our area:

The Davis Cup Finals, US vs. Russia, is coming to Portland, November 30 to December 2. This is a HUGE event, don’t miss it!  According to the USTA website, tickets are going on sale October 15th, you can call toll-free 1-888-484-USTA (8782) for a recorded message with ticket information.

Also, Pete Sampras and Jim Courier will be playing an exhibition match in Portland November 9.  More details on both these events are available on the USTA PNW website at http://www.pnw.usta.com/home/default.sps.

In local tennis news:  The October issue of TENNIS magazine, Ana Ivanovich on the cover, has a story on a tennis match played in Sequim last March.  It was the “Battle of the Hastings”, Doug A. Hastings of Boston playing Doug A. Hastings of Sequim.  Read the story to find out what that was all about.

This week also features a local tennis event that, while unlikely to get national media coverage, you have an opportunity to participate in!  We need PTC volunteers to help pick up trash on our section of 101, Shore Rd to Dryke Rd, on the morning of Friday, October 5th or Saturday, October 6, weather permitting.  This is our 2nd trash pickup, and we would like to get a new crew of volunteers out.  If you are able to help one of those days, please send email or call Laurel at 452-9058.

If you have not played on the new Erickson Park courts, get out and try them.  They are fabulous, and are seeing lots of play, especially in the late afternoons & evenings.

Community Tennis continues at the Erickson Park courts on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday mornings at 9:30, and Tuesday and Thursday at 4:00 pm.  If you are looking for people to play with, come out at those times.  Community Tennis is also continuing at noon on Sundays at the Sequim High School.

In PTC business: The 2-year terms of our current officers, President Laurel Cripe, VP Bob Ritchie, Secretary Carl Strunk, Treasurer Casi Fors are over in December.  Nominations for officers can be sent in via email, or called to the PTC phone at 460-2588. We will elect 2008 – 2009 officers at our December dinner meeting.  Please consider helping PTC out by volunteering for an office.

Attached is a copy of the PTC member roster.  Please email me any corrections.

That’s all the news for now.  Get out and play while you can!
