Also, a heads-up: John Campbell, tennis pro from Bally’s in Olympia, is planning on putting on an adult camp for 3.0 to 4.0 level players at PAHS, July 27-29th. A flyer is not available yet, so I will send more email when details are available.
On to other news: The next monthly business meeting is Monday, June 18th, 6:30 pm at the Port Angeles Library. Anyone interested is welcome to attend.
Erickson Park Update: Low bid from Lakeside was $215,000, we had $152,000 committed funds. PTC stepped up with an additional $6500 donation, made up of $2631 in donations expressly made for Erickson, and $3869 from the PTC savings account. The PNW section of the USTA pledged an additional $10,000 to the project. This is support from our USTA section above & beyond their court grants, and shows a great deal of confidence in PTC and desire to make this project go.
The Erickson bids will be on the City Council meeting agenda for June 19th. Bill Sterling, Deputy Director of Recreation, will make a project presentation to the council, and we will have a USTA representative speak, representing their $46,400 interest in the project, and PTC representation for our $22,100 interest, and ask the city council to fund the remaining $46,500 out of the city budget. The 3 members of the sub-committee on Parks & Recreation: Edna Petersen, Grant Munro, and Gary Braun, are unanimously recommending that the city accept the additional USTA & PTC donations, and fund the remaining portion, and award the bid. We will need at least one additional favorable vote from the remaining 4 council members for the funding to be granted. We are optimistic, though there are no guarantees until the vote is taken.
And, finally, congratulations to the Sequim Girl’s Tennis Team, for their first place team finish at state! Well done!
That’s it for now. See you on the courts!
Laurel Cripe President, Peninsula Tennis Club
