May 1, 2004 - Membership Meeting Minutes.

 

Peninsula Tennis Club May 1, 2004

Meeting held at Joshua’s restaurant. Meeting started around 8:30am.
Aproximately. 25 tennis players attended.
 
Introduction by all, plus mentioning of the two students in attendance, receiving scholarships from the Club, with their parents.
 
Roger asked Rosemary to give an update on the painting of the shed, at the Port Angeles High School. She will start working on it as soon as she has the paint and needs some volunteers to help her.
 
Jerry Estberg gave an update on the Saundra Kent Tennis Tournament coming up in August. He gave an overview of the meeting he had with several people involved in the organization, and mentioned that he would like some more volunteers to help out during the tournament itself.
Shirley Peters and her husband will be cleaning the courts before the tournament starts and will need help also.
The potluck, normally held at the end of the two-weekend tournament, will be held on the Saturday of the first weekend of the tournament.
The banner for the tournament will be placed at the Erickson Tennis courts as soon as possible and after August 1 at the High School tennis courts.
 
Marie Watford of Sequim, gave a report on the doubles tournament in Sequim, to be held the first weekend of July. President Roger Goettling, promised help from our club.
The dates of the tournament: July 9,10 and 11 at the Sequim High School Tennis courts.

Treasurer Report: Lee Shames reported :
$ 2,200.00 in checking account
$ 2,400.00 in savings account
$ 4,542.00 in covered court account.
Dues for the year are due at this time, $20.00 per person and $30.00 per family.
 
Roger Goettling handed gift certificates to Laurel Cripe and Karen Chrisman for their hard work to get the Fall League going and make it a very successful event.
 
Discussion about the ball machine. Marielle has talked to Brian Kreider several times.
He is supposed to order the part that broke, but has yet failed to do so.
She will e-mail Scott Brodhun and ask him about this.
 
Laurel Cripe suggested to order new rollers for the squeegees, they would be around $35.00. Voted on ordering them over the Internet.
Laurel also suggested to have a special award for the most improved tennis player in December, between May and December. (would have been Bob Ritchie)
Laurel has taken over the web page up-keep from Mike Banks, who moved to Arizona.
There will be a section where tennis items can be listed for sale, or items wanted.
 
Fran Burch reported on the scholarships given out for this year.
Four scholarships of $400.00 each went to: Brian Holmquist and Dylan Gruver of Port Angeles High School plus Brian Poon and Krista Gunstone from Sequim.
One scholarship of $600.00 went to Jennifer Schouten of Port Angeles.
 
Laurel Cripe moved that the membership should be updated and kept by the treasurer
Lee Shames, because he receives the payments and information.
Marielle seconded the motion.
 
Marie Watford was voted in as the new secretary for the Peninsula Tennis Club.
She will get together with Marielle to take over the secretarial duties for the next two years. Roger Goettling, president and Lee Shames, treasurer will remain in office for another year, until May 2005.
 
Meeting was adjourned at 9:30am.
16 People participated in the tennis scramble at the High School after the meeting.
