computer Lab Program Reopened!!

The Computer Lab is dedicated to meeting the basic computer learning needs and interests of those who are new to computers or have more intermediate skills. It offers fee-based basic computer instruction at the Senior Center, as indicated below.

Use of Colognes, etc.

For the benefit of those who have asthma, or are sensitive or allergic to colognes, perfumes, after shave lotion, etc. please limit use when on trips, in classes & public areas!

Supervised independent-use “Open Lab” times are also available for a $1 fee for Port Angeles Senior Center Members and $2 for Non-members.

Introduction to Computers:

Never touched a computer before? This 2-hour class is for you. Learn how to start and shut down a computer, use a mouse, access a program and much more. The class is designed to prepare the "first timer" for Basic Computing I (BC I)

Required Prerequisites: None

Required Materials: Pen or pencil, and notepaper

Basic Computing I (BC I):

Your opportunity to continue building basic computer skills including the fundamentals of working with a computer, creating basic documents in WordPad, cut, or copy and Paste text, and much more... Skills learned apply to all Windows operating systems. Meets BC II prerequisites

Required Prerequisites: Intro to Computers, Equivalent Skills or Instructor’s Permission

Required Materials: Pen or pencil, and notepaper

Days/Dates: Tues/Thurs 4/8 – 4/25 Time: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Basic Computing II (BC II):

Builds on skills learned in BC I, including mouse and keyboard skills. Introduction to Internet and Microsoft Word including navigating documents, menus, and toolbar options. Enhance skills in cutting, copying and pasting including working between documents and saving your work. “My Computer” functions, Control Panel and more. Using Windows XP operating system, with information on all other version of Windows operating systems included. Meets Word Processing  & Internet classes’ prerequisites

Required Prerequisites: BC I or Equivalent Skills and Instructor’s Permission

Required Materials: Pen or pencil, notepaper and 1 CD-R (available for purchase from local stores or Computer Lab.)

Days/Dates: Tues/Thurs (6/3 – 19) or (8/5 – 8/21) Time: 1 – 3 p.m.

Working with Photos:

Class is designed as a project using the Picasa program starting with developing the basic skills for organizing and saving photos from your web-based email, digital camera, using your USB Cable, or Scanner to the computer. Editing, saving and undoing edit changes. The end result will be how to have an online photo album and your photos saved to your CD-R. Good basic computer skills are important for this class.

Required Prerequisites: BC I or Equivalent Skills and/or Instructor’s permission

Required Materials: 1 CD-R (available for purchase from local stores or Computer Lab.) other materials announced at first class.

Individual Tutoring for Either PC or MacIntosh

Tutoring is available for a large variety of computer skills and all tutoring is held in the Senior Center.

If you are interested in more information on or wish to request individual computer instruction, please stop in at the Computer Lab, between 10 & 2, Monday – Friday, and talk to the registrar.

Tutoring Fees per hour: $6 Members; $7 Assoc. Members; $8 Non-Members
