Biography for Douglas M. Gailey, Director Port Angeles High School Bands

Mr. Gailey received his Bachelor of Arts in Education with a Music emphasis from the University of Washington in 1984. His post graduate work was done at the University of Utah where he earned a graduate assistantship working with Prof. Gregg I. Hanson. He received a Master of Music in instrumental conducting in 1986.

Mr. Gailey began his teaching career in 1986 at Bingham High School in South Jordan, Utah, where his bands and orchestra were consistently awarded Superior Ratings in state and regional competition. In 1990, the Bingham High Percussion Ensemble was selected as one of three percussion ensembles in the nation to perform at the Percussive Arts Society National Convention.

Mr. Gailey moved to Port Angeles, Washington in 1991 and began teaching at Port Angeles High School. He directs the Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and Percussion Ensemble, Marching and Pep Bands. Under his direction the well rounded band program continues to enjoy an outstanding reputation for quality. Travel highlights include performances in Los Angeles, California, Washington, D. C., and Northern China.

Douglas M. Gailey was born in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1958. He is married to Jolene Dalton Gailey and has two sons, Josh and Justin. He loves spending time with his family, fly fishing, skiing and backpacking and of course - music.
