Libertarian Party of Washington State

Party Platform

Preamble

"All political power is inherent in the people, and governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, and are established to protect and maintain individual rights."

Art 1, Sec 1 of the Washington Constitution

Platform

We hold that every person has a natural right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

We hold that, where governments exist, their sole purpose is to protect the rights and properties of peaceful individuals.

We hold that the only moral use of force is in self-defense. Thus, the initiation of force is always immoral - whether committed by individuals or by governments.

We hold that individual liberty and economic liberty are inseparable.

Accordingly, the Libertarian Party of Washington State seeks:

Federal Government which is limited to the powers specifically enumerated for it in the U.S. Constitution.
State and local government which does not participate in the economy or interfere in the private moral decisions of its citizens.
A society which is free and prosperous, based on respect for our differences, acknowledgement of the creative potential of a free market, and optimism for the future.

Adopted in Convention, May 3, 1998
