JUST SAY NO TO THE PERPETUAL WAR AGAINST EVERYTHING

We are a peaceful nation. This is what we were once taught in our schools. This was before the Viet-Nam conflict, when we were still protected by a Constitution that limited the ability of the Government to wage war. The Korean conflict had been an exception to the rule that was established at the founding of our Nation: that Congress would declare war and the Administration would wage the war. Since then, in the name of “Peace,” thousands of Americans have died, killing thousands of others around the world. Now, with high-technology destruction, only the “enemy” soldiers die. The only loss for America is good will.

Congress has relinquished its duty to declare war. The War Powers Act has, in essence, declared war against all nations. The Executive is empowered to use our standing armies as it pleases. Only after the act of war has been committed does Congress enter the debate. At that point, the discussion is limited to whether we should end the war or not. The Founding Fathers designed our Constitution to make it difficult to get involved in foreign conflicts. The Empire Builders that have dominated our government during this century have subverted the Constitution; the War Powers Act provides a veil of legitimacy to this subversion.

Our government not only wages war against the nations of the world, but also against the people of our own nation. The wars against drugs, poverty, and discrimination are actually wars against the people of the United States. In the name of the War Against Drugs, our government has violated our rights to property, privacy and Liberty itself. In the name of the War Against Poverty, our government has violated our economic liberties, has redistributed the wealth of the middle class and has entrapped the poor into an inescapable prison of welfare. In the name of the War Against Discrimination our government has infringed against the right of Americans to associate or to choose not to associate. Private behavior is scrutinized by hordes of bureaucrats. These changes have occurred gradually over the last seventy-five years so that it has not had the impact on our lives that it would have had, had it been a sudden change. Evidence of gradualism is seen on a daily basis.

I am fifty years old and my entire life has been influenced by one war after another. I have voted for Democrats in the hope that they would end the war against our people, and I’ve voted for the Republicans in the hope that they would end the war against the economy. I am tired of waiting for things to get better while they continue to get worse. I have decided to run for the 6th Congressional seat of Washington State so I might go to Congress in Washington, DC and just say no to the perpetual war against everything.
