LIBERTARIAN FOR CONGRESS

SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS

The Rights to Life, Liberty, Property and the pursuit of Happiness are unalienable Rights, part of the natural heritage of Man, granted by God. By definition, an unalienable right cannot be delegated by the individual nor taken from him by force. The Right to keep and bear arms is protected by the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. This is a secondary right, thought by the Founders to be necessary to the security of a free state.

I believe that it is unfortunate that The Congress, The Court and the Executive have seen fit to interpret the plain language of the Constitution in so many unintelligible ways. Their infringement of our right to keep and bear arms in the name of “public safety” is unwise, un-American and, I think, unconstitutional. Benjamin Franklin said “Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

Our Constitution and our Government were established to protect our Liberties. The Founding Generation delegated the Right to initiate Force to the Government. We as individuals do not bear a right to initiate force, but in the name of the Second Amendment we did retain the right to keep and bear Arms. Should an individual use arms to initiate force, then the Government is obligated by duty to intervene. The outlaw should be apprehended and prosecuted to an extent equal to the crime committed.

Laws that punish those who would infringe on our unalienable Rights are Just Laws. Laws that are intended to protect us from the dangers of Life will, by necessity, interfere with our Liberty. Congress should insist that the laws that are on the books that prohibit the initiation of force should be enforced. Laws that protect us by limiting our Liberty should be repealed. With fewer laws, the remaining laws can be more clearly understood and vigorously prosecuted.

I invite you to vote for me in September and November of the Year 2000 so that I can take this perspective to Washington, DC and argue it with the other Members of the Congress of the United States. Discuss this issue with friends and acquaintances and let them know my name. If at all possible, please support my campaign with your most generous donation to:
