Secondly, after the first sell-out show at the Parkway in Oakland, we're having an encore screening of Miya of the Quiet Strength at the El Cerrito Speakeasy on March 29 at 2pm. There are also shows coming up soon in Iowa in Iowa City and Ames. Check out miyafilm.com for the latest information.

The past few months I've been hard at work co-editing a film by Daniel Julien with Tal Skloot called Miya of the Quiet Strength. It's a one hour biographical documentary about Miya Rodolfo-Sioson, an amazing disability rights activist in Berkeley. ABC 7 News recently aired a piece about the film which you can see here.

Here's the trailer for Troop 214, a documentary about Hungarian Scouting in exile during the cold war.

Sorry to be neglecting the site so much lately, but I've just been too busy working to work on any of my own projects. Hopefully I'll do some more animation soon, but until then, thought I'd let you know what I've been up to.

The two projects I've been assistant editing for Zala Films are just about finished. You can have a look at the trailers for Hard Problems and Julia Robinson and Solving Hilbert's Tenth Problem. Among other things, I completed animated graphics for both of these films. They'll be premiering in San Diego on January 8th.

Also, I've been working over at CNET editing videos. To get an idea of the kind of work I do there, have a look at this video on cell phone applications or this video about tech gifting.

Since Madcat has come and gone, I'm posting "Edie and the Nun" to the site. If you ever feel like seeing it in 16mm, let me know. It's much purdier.

Also, "Summary and Analysis" has been accepted to the Square One Cinema International Film Festival, which will take place in November in San Francisco.

Finally, San Francisco State has started a youtube group to showcase student work, so check it out to see what some of my former classmates have been up to. The group allows videos created by students to be featured on the cinema department page.

"Summary and Analysis" was selected for the California International Festival of Animation. It'll be showing on October 2nd at the Galaxy 12 theater in Riverbank. Show starts at 6:00.

A great news update

Lots of great news in this update. First of all, Edie and the Nun has been selected for the Madcat Film Festival. It will be making its premiere as part of the "A Hand Made Tale" program on September 25th at El Rio in San Francisco. It'll be projected from a 16mm print.

Secondly, Summary and Analysis is going to be playing at the Red Vic in San Francisco along with the other SFSU Film Finals selections. There will be two shows on August 23rd.

Last but not least, I'm currently developing a new animation entitled "Automat". Funding for the film has been provided by the Film Arts Foundation, which recently selected this project as a recipient of one of their personal works grants.

Exciting stuff! My brand spanking new animation "Summary and Analysis" is complete. A combination of 2d computer animation and stop motion on 16mm film, it's a true tale of high school laziness on the part of both student and instructor.

COME AND SEE IT!
The film was voted by San Francisco State cinema faculty and students as being among the best work of the year, so the film will be making its big public debut at SFSU Film Finals on Friday, May 18th. It's a showcase of a lot of excellent student work, so go even if you hate me. But if you hate me why are you reading this? You're silly.

Remember a while back when I said I was going to AC a music video? Well it's up on youtube. "Wow," you might say, "you guys had very shallow depth of field. That must have been some intense focus pulling." Or maybe not. Anyway, Joey wanted things to go in and out of focus, but I made sure there was focus where desired! Hope you like it.

Ascension

New animation, "Ascension" is up. This is the longest hand drawn animation I've done yet, and consists of 500 hundred individually drawn frames. To ease the drawing process, I constructed a light board out of stuff I had around the house.

The animation features music by frequent collaborator Greg Hardgrave's band, Canvasclimber.

In other news, I'm currently interning as an assistant editor on two feature length documentaries for Zala Films.

I finally managed to get a digital transfer of The Gift. I also realized that for some reason I forgot to put a link to My New York Year on the animation page, and this has now been corrected.

I hope to soon get digital transfers of a couple of films I made on the optical printer last semester, so keep your eyes open for those.

It's winter break, but I'm keeping busy by crewing on films all this month. I have three lined up thus far. More info on these later.

Last weekend I crewed on Jeffrey Boyette's undergraduate thesis film "Pushing Beijing". Jeff wanted to shoot on the fly with a small crew performing multiple roles, so I acted as sound/boom op, loader, grip, and took some production stills in the rare moments I had time. The movie is about bicyclists in San Francisco, so there were a lot of fun set ups on bike rigs. Hopefully I'll get the photos digitized soon.

Thanksgiving weekend I'm going to be assistant camera on a 16mm music video for The Magic Bullets.

Carrie Noel has a promo version of "This Bird Has Flown" up on her website. It looks great, so check it out!

I'm now on you tube with some of my stuff. The quality isn't as good there, but hey, what's a little more shameless self promotion?

School and whatnot

Shooting on "This Bird Has Flown" has wrapped. Hopefully I'll be able to post a link to it sometime in the next few months. School's started up. I'm taking a lot of production classes (cinematography, sound recording and optical printing) so look for some of the projects for these classes to be posted soon. I'm also hoping to crew on some more SFSU student films this semester. Ok, admittedly this is just an update about future updates. Thanks for checking in!
