POETRY by RAY MARTELL

A caregiver’s lament

Angel of Death

Death comes walking in the shadows of the night

With sympathy in her eyes not caring what is right

A smile slowly forming of bitterness and sorrow

She’s here to take a life not ready yet to borrow

Others have decided the fate of this poor man

Reaching out to end his days as quickly as they can

A man who bore his loved ones and gave the lives they lead

Who nourished them and cared for them giving without heed

His time has come, an ending, a closing of his day

He’s worthless to them now for his dying they do pray

Today
